I remember years back, one of my first jobs I had was working as a part-time receptionist. It wasn’t necessarily my dream job but with two small children at home, I wasn’t complaining. I eventually worked my way up to customer service but even then, I wasn’t necessarily fulfilled.
It wasn’t until years later that our Human Resource Director came across a test that would teach managers how to interact with their employees, as well as show the employees strengths and weaknesses. The test categorized the employee into four different colors. Since she and I were friends, I became her guinea pig and she gave me the test first. It turned out the current job I had been doing was categorized as “Red” but all my strengths suggested that was in fact “Blue”.
So what did this mean for me? Well as she dug further she saw that I was better suited for another department entirely. Not long after the test, I was transferred to the Graphics department and though I didn’t have the background for graphics design, oddly enough I excelled there. It even made the most of the duration in that company, the happiest I’d ever been.
Why do I bring this up?
Well, working with a group of very creative thinkers, it always amazes me seeing the work they produce and the images they create. Our artists, thank goodness, didn’t have to take a test to tell them where they belonged. They knew from the get go and fortunately for our clients, they are all here to serve you. In fact, they go so much further than a white sign and bold type. They see things in an array of colors. They have an endless imagination. They have an appreciation for abstract where others only see fine lines. They create based on emotion and the result is art!
This next blog series is based on our “creative thinkers” at JPT. You speak with them on the phone, email them daily and they fulfill your orders. Wouldn’t you like to know a little bit more about them? Well, in the next few weeks you’ll get to!
